Dr. Rochelle Schwartz

Dr Rochelle Schwartz brings over 35 years of experience as a Family Physician in private practice to Genesis Professional Group and has a special interest in proactive, integrative medicine and healthcare advocacy. She is well-recognized for her unconditional commitment to providing excellence in healthcare to her patients and is a highly respected family physician in the medical community and to her specialist colleagues in Ontario.

Dr. Schwartz received her BSC from the University of Calgary and was awarded the University College Gold Medal for achieving the highest academic proficiency in her field of study in science. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine University of Toronto in 1983 and completed her family practice residency at North York General Hospital and Sunnybrook Medical Center. In the late 1990’s, she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship Designation for excellence in Family Practice from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Schwartz is currently on staff at North York General Hospital.

Dr. Schwartz and her family have been advocates for cancer patients across Canada since 2010. She, her husband Yaron and children Dr. Elan and Adam Panov, as well as her longtime medical partner Dr. Sharla Lichtman, were instrumental in raising $2 million to bring a unique and revolutionary cancer treatment technology from John Hopkins Medical Center in the USA and Champions Oncology to Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto. Together they created “The Panov Program in Precision Chemotherapy” for sarcoma cancer patients and their families in Canada. The Panov Program research initiative continues until today as a legacy to Dr. Schwartz’s husband Yaron Panov who died of sarcoma in 2017 at the age of 62. It is a reminder to our medical colleagues and Canadian hospitals, that resilience and perseverance can bring changes and advancement in improving treatments and technology to our patients and the health care system across Canada.

Dr. Sharla Lichtman

Dr. Sharla Lichtman enjoys a reputation as a highly respected medical doctor with a particular focus on proactive, integrative anti-aging medicine. Her earlier degree in Psychology has enabled her to have a deeper understanding of the interconnection between physical and mental health.

For the past 30 years she has dedicated herself to advocating for her patients and providing top quality excellent healthcare planning.

Since 2015, Dr. Lichtman has been part of an international disaster preparedness team. She has undergone regular training as a first responder in the event of a mass casualty.

Dr. Lichtman graduated from McGill University with an honours BA in psychology and was awarded the James McGill scholarship for academic achievement. She received her medical degree for the University of Calgary Medical School in 1986 where she received a full scholarship through the Nat Christie Medical Bursary Award for academic excellence. Dr. Lichtman completed her family practice residency at Sunnybrook Health Center in Toronto. She’s currently on staff at North York General Hospital.

Dr. Sheryl Brown

Sheryl Brown has over 20 years of practice experience. She has a special interest in integrative medicine, hormonal, anti-aging and wellness planning including integrative cancer care. Dr. Brown strives toward offering patient centered care, combining traditional allopathic medicine with a holistic wellness approach.

Dr. Brown obtained her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1991. She did her residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland clinic and at Michigan State University. She has received her Diploma and Board Certification in anti-aging medicine and has a Fellowship in Integrative Cancer care.

In addition to the above, Dr. Brown enjoys a special interest and supportive psychotherapy.

Dr. Joel Eisen

Dr. Eisen brings over 30 years of experience as a Physician in family practice, emergency medicine and hospital medicine to Genesis Professional Group. He has a special interest in personal, proactive, preventative medicine and mental health care.

Dr. Eisen is a sports enthusiast involving himself with raising money for children with physical and mental disabilities through his many cycling and running adventures. He is an active member of the Magen David Adom International Team for disaster preparedness, learning and working with emergency first responders how to respond in the event of a mass casualty event here or abroad. He spends time actively working with paramedics assisting them in caring for civilian medical emergencies.

Recognizing the strong bond between our body and mind, Dr. Eisen practices with a heightened awareness of the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. He is certified in Mental Health First Aid and is a member of the Crisis Intervention Team in Toronto under the umbrella of Chai Life Toronto.

Dr. Eisen graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1984 completing a Straight Surgical Internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto in 1985. He is currently a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Dr. Ben Welkovics

Dr. Ben Welkovics is excited to be part of the Genesis team. He has a special interest in preventive and proactive care, patient advocacy and health literacy. He is known for building collaborative, trusting relationships with patients, and together optimizing their health and wellness goals.

Dr. Welkovics graduated from Western University with an Honours BSc Double Major in Medical Sciences and Psychology and received the Academic Merit Scholarship. He attended the University of Toronto School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University. He received the Canadian Immunization Conference Bursary for Excellence in Research and was a finalist for the Dr. Frank J. Butson Resident Award in Family Medicine.

Dr. Welkovics is a fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

How Genesis Began

Dr. Sharla Lichtman and Dr. Rochelle Schwartz have been part of the Genesis Professional Group since its inception in 2001.

In the mid 1990s Dr. Lichtman and Dr. Schwartz  recognized that it was becoming increasingly challenging to provide medical care to their patients as the Ontario healthcare system began to experience radical changes and healthcare cutbacks with a focus on the bottom dollar rather than quality healthcare.

In an attempt to advocate for their patients and the healthcare system they became politically active and founded the Coalition of Family Physicians of Ontario.

From 1996-2000, with a backing of a 4000 family physician membership they worked tirelessly to try to effect positive changes for healthcare and the practice of family medicine. After 4 years of persistent pressure on their medical associations and the government and a regular presence in the media, it became clear to them that their energy and efforts would be better served by doing what they could do best-caring for people in a model that enabled them to practice  personally focused, quality preventative healthcare.
